PA Spanish-American WarBiography of a PA soldier, Lewis Williams
Lewis Clement, son of John Thomas and Caroline (Pollock) Williams, was born in Luzerne township, Pennsylvania, August 18, 1875. He was educated in the public schools, and for a time helped his father and also worked in a glass factory.
He later learned the trade of stone setter, and is now well established in the granite and marble monumental business in Uniontown. He began business there in 1890, and has been so engaged continuously ever since, excepting the time spent in the service of his country during the Spanish-American war.
He enlisted April 27, 1898, in Company C, Tenth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and was honorably discharged after sixteen months' service. He saw duty in the Philippines, serving with his regiment in many battles and skirmishes, retaining perfect health and never missing a roll call. On his return he resumed his business, and has been very successful.
He is a Republican in politics and a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Royal Arcanum and Knights of Malta.
