Spanish-American War
Adams County Pennsylvania Soldiers, 1898
In comparison with the Civil War and World Wars I and II, this war made few changes in the way residents of Abbottstown lived; most of them followed their accustomed vocations. They were not unsympathetic, however, toward the suffering of the Cuban people under Spanish rule and, from time to time, were thrilled by the successes of the United States army and navy. Dewey, Hobson, and Roosevelt; and Minila, Santiago and San Juan Hill intensified their enthusiasm for the war "in the cause of humanity." Only two Abbottstwon citizens enlisted for service in this war:
Charles Kinneman
Frank L. Yeager
Both returned to their homes at the close of the war.
